PATRIOTISM REACHES ITS PEAK ON 73RD INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATION AT ISD

The 73rd Independence Day of India was celebrated at Indian School Darsait with spirited patriotic fervor coupled with feelings of deep selfless love so unique to the Indian Diaspora. H.E. Munu Mahawar, the Ambassador of India to the Sultanate of Oman was the Chief Guest on the occasion. The programme witnessed the presence of Officials from Indian Embassy and Board of Directors, Mr. Jaikish Pavithran, President, School Management Committee, other esteemed Members of SMC, Principal Dr. Sridevi P.Thashnath, various dignitaries, staff, students, parents and well-wishers of ISD.  

The School Campus was zealously draped in the nation’s tri colours. The artistic depiction of the historic Dandi March was the cynosure of all eyes. The pleasant morning was stirred up by the excited innocent smiles of Kindergarten tiny tots wearing tri colour headbands and their cheeks painted in the colours of Mother India. The programme took off with the ushering in of the Chief Guest with rosette and chocolate floral bouquet to a standing ovation by the audience. The gathering stood with reverence and joined the school choir as the atmosphere reverberated with ‘Jana Gana Mana’ - the National Anthem of India.

H.E. Munu Mahawar paid floral tributes at the replica of Amar Jawan Jyoti to commemorate the martyred and unknown soldiers of the Indian Armed Forces in the 1971 war. This was followed by the Guard of Honour presented by the Student Council and March Past contingents of four houses, adorning their respective PE uniforms and led by their house leaders. They displayed precision and discipline as they matched their steps to the crisp rhythms of the school band. The uniformity in their movements and the agility of their bodies left the audience spellbound. The music medley “KadamKadam Badhaye Ja” was presented by the little ones from the Primary Section who sang their way in to souls of the listeners as they presented a beautiful picture of a vibrant India. 

Speaking on the occasion the Chief Guest gave an insight into the greatness of India as a nation and also lay emphasis on the economic prowess of the nation in today’s world. H.E.  Munu Mahawar also reiterated on the strong bond shared by Oman and India.

Quoting from the excerpts of the message delivered by the Honourable President of India, Sri Ram Nath Kovind on the Eve of Independence Day, His Excellency stated that this was a land mark year because the nation was celebrating the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Devji. The President of India in his address reminded the present generation of the sacrifices made by the freedom fighters as well our soldiers in gaining and safeguarding our hard won freedom. He also exhorted the citizens to be responsible for safeguarding the environment, public assets, cultural diversity, integrity and sovereignty of the nation. The speech was aptly concluded with a beautiful quote from

the visionary poet Subramaniam Bharati expressing in verse the very essence of the real Indian who considers each work as supreme duty. The melodious rendition of the medley “MaaTujhe Salaam” by the students of Senior School touched the chords of the audience. The primary and senior students presented dances reaffirming their resolve to build a swaach, healthy and a progressive nation, keeping close to their hearts the selfless sacrifices of the heroes of the Kargil War.

As a token of gratitude, a memento was presented to H.E. Munu Mahawar by the President of the SMC. The dignitaries were led into a picture perfect setting in the auditorium where His Excellency cut a cake to celebrate the 73rd Independence Day. Sweets were also distributed at the conclusion of the programme and each one left the premises with feelings of comradeship and love towards one another and the beautiful la patrie- mere India.
